Good afternoon and welcome to our new weekly SEO news roundup! Below you will find various articles we read and shared over social media in the past week that we feel are important to read. If you have anything else you’d like to share or bring to our attention that didn’t make it on to the list, hit us up on Twitter and we’ll take a look at it.
Search Engine Journal – Google Search Console to Alert Users About Site Hacks and Malware: SEJ reported that Google Search Console has a new reporting element called “Security Issues.” Users will now be notified if their site has been compromised.
State of Digital – How Long Will it Take for Your New Website to Rank in Google?: Reconfirming that they deal with SEO, State of Digital attempted to answer a frequently asked question by clients and prospects and came to the conclusion “It depends.” However, the article discusses key factors that contribute to a metric SoD calls “time to rank (TTR)” and it goes into detail with two common scenarios.
State of Digital – How to Optimise for Searcher Intent (Complete Guide 2019): As the second piece of very useful content, SoD breaks down how you should optimize your content for what your searcher is looking for. They divide searcher intent into three broad categories: transactional, informational, and navigational. They also help you figure out how to analyze the SERPs to better understand what Google is trying to deliver based on the keyword query and how to then perform intent-based keyword research. You should check it out.
Ahrefs – Internal Links for SEO: An Actionable Guide: Ahrefs published a useful guide on creating internal links and improving your site’s interconnectivity. While much of the article highlights how their tool will help you accomplish the tasks they point out, it is a recommended reading to better understand why your content needs internal links and how to go about doing it the right way.
Search Engine Journal – How Outbound Links May Affect Rankings: Roger Monti on Search Engine Journal dives into how outbound links can impact the performance of a page. What you link to (the relevance of the topic) and where you link to (the site – is it authoritative or trustworthy?) impact your rankings.
Search Engine Land – Targeted SEO: Here’s how to grow a page from 200 visits per month to 30,000: Andrew Dennis at Search Engine Land walks readers through the general steps to organically grow a page’s monthly traffic.
BrightEdge – Mobile-First Algorithm: Did You Make These Mistakes?: Google reported recently that about half of all sites have moved over to mobile-first indexing and the remaining half are going to be far more difficult to shift. In light of that, this is a useful informative post to begin auditing any of your client sites that have or have not moved over, so you can either look for issues and get into compliance or prepare for your future move.
